Urticaria
Hives are a common skin problem that causes itching, redness, and swelling in the affected area. These lumps go away on their own after a few hours, but they reappear in another location, and sometimes multiple lumps are more likely to coalesce into one large lump. Most hives are localized and temporary, and only a few can cause long-term problems.
Types of hives
1. Acute urticaria: Usually caused by food, medication, infection, or insect bites. High-risk foods include nuts, chocolate, fish, eggs, tomatoes, strawberries, milk, food additives and preservatives.
2. Physical urticaria: such as sunlight, heat, cold, exercise, pressure and vibration. Some people may experience scratching symptoms similar to hives after scratching their skin, known as ” dermatographism “, but are otherwise healthy.
